DOWNEY, Calif. (KABC) — A riot broke out at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall in Downey late Friday night, prompting authorities to impose a lockdown on the facility.
AIR7 HD captured footage showing numerous officers from the Downey Police Department and Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies surrounding the sprawling facility, which houses juvenile offenders.
Downey PD referred to it as “a disturbance” in an Instagram post and advised the public to avoid the area. Residents living nearby were urged to remain indoors with their doors and windows securely locked.
The extent of injuries resulting from the riot is currently unknown.
According to Downey PD, the facility was later secured, and there was no further threat to the safety of the public.
