Reliance Jio has unveiled the Jio Bharat Phone, a cost-effective internet-enabled phone designed to empower feature phone users. Priced at just Rs 999, this offering aims to tap into India’s existing 250 million feature phone user base and provide access to internet-enabled services.
Jio Bharat Platform to Deliver Digital Services
The Jio Bharat platform will offer a range of digital services on entry-level phones. Apart from Reliance Retail, other phone brands, starting with Karbonn, will also adopt the Jio Bharat platform to manufacture Jio Bharat phones.
Beta Trial and Enhanced Digital Experience
A beta trial for the initial 1 million Jio Bharat phones will commence on July 7. This trial will cover 6,500 tehsils, focusing on upgrading feature phone users and providing them with an enhanced digital experience.
Jio Bharat Pricing Plans
The Jio Bharat Phone plan is priced at just Rs 123 per month and offers unlimited voice calls along with 14GB of data (0.5GB per day). Compared to other operators’ feature phone plans, this plan is 30% cheaper and provides 7 times more data.
Additionally, users can opt for the Annual Plan at Rs 1,234, which includes a total of 168GB of data (0.5GB per day) and unlimited calling.
Akash Ambani’s Vision for Jio Bharat Phone
Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio, expressed the mission behind Jio Bharat Phone, stating, “There are still 250 million mobile phone users in India who remain ‘trapped’ in the 2G era, unable to tap into basic internet features in a time when the world stands at the cusp of a 5G revolution.”
He further added, “Jio made it clear six years ago that it will democratize the internet and bring the benefits of technology to every Indian. The new Jio Bharat Phone is another step in that direction. It showcases our focus on providing true value and meaningful use cases for different user segments.”
