Google has recently announced the introduction of seven new features to enhance the messaging experience in Google Chat. These features aim to make communication more convenient and enjoyable for users. Let’s explore the new additions:
1. Smart Compose: Craft quick responses
Smart Compose, a feature already available in Gmail and Google Docs, now extends to Google Chat. It provides contextual suggestions to help users respond promptly. This feature reduces spelling and grammar errors and can be activated by pressing the tab key while typing.
2. Message Editing and Deletion
Users can now edit and delete messages in Google Chat. This allows for better clarity, accuracy, and adjustment of tone in previously sent messages. Editing and deleting messages ensures effective communication.
3. Quoting Messages in Group Chats
To facilitate organized discussions, Google Chat now enables users to quote specific messages in their responses. This feature helps the group identify the referenced comment without interrupting the flow of the main conversation.
4. Read Receipts in Group Chats
In group chats, users can now view read receipts for messages. When a message is read, the avatar of the person who read it will appear below the message. In larger group chats, users can hover or tap to access a complete list of recipients who have read the message.
5. Direct Linking to Text
Sharing links to specific text within Google Chat is now possible. Whether it’s a menu, tour itinerary, or any other text in a document, users can select the desired text and insert a hyperlink using the “Insert link” icon or the keyboard shortcut ⌘/Ctrl + k.
6. Hiding Inactive Conversations
To declutter the Chat interface, inactive direct messages and spaces that have been dormant for the past seven days will be automatically hidden if there are more than 10 active conversations. Users can access the full list of conversations by clicking the “More” button.
7. Add Apps for Enhanced Functionality
Users can expand the functionality of group chats by adding apps. For example, apps like Asana can be utilized for creating to-do lists and assigning tasks during party planning, while Zapier can provide custom notifications to keep everyone updated. Additionally, users can enhance conversations by adding GIFs from Giphy.
Here is the availability of the new features:
- Smart Compose: Now available in multiple languages for all Chat web users.
