Messi Leads Inter Miami to Victory
Lionel Messi displayed his brilliance once again as Inter Miami defeated Orlando City 3-1 in the 12th edition of the Clásico del Sol during the Leagues Cup round of 32 at the DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.
The match was delayed due to heavy rains, pushing the kick-off time by an hour and 35 minutes.
Messi opened the scoring in the 7th minute with a powerful left-footed strike, securing his fourth goal for Inter Miami. Ten minutes later, César Araujo equalized for Orlando. In the second half, Josef Martínez converted a penalty in the 51st minute, with Messi assisting him. Later, Messi scored his second goal of the game, making it 3-1 for Inter Miami in the 70th minute.
Since joining Inter Miami, Messi has been in top form, leading the team to consecutive victories. His presence has revitalized the team’s performance, ending an 11-game winless streak in the MLS East and making a triumphant debut in the Leagues Cup.
Inter Miami will face Dallas FC in the round of 16 on Sunday, and they have a chance to meet Pachuca, the Mexican champion, in the quarterfinals.
Note: The direct elimination phase of the Leagues Cup features single-match fixtures between teams from MLS and the Mexican League.
