Madurai District Court, Tamil Nadu, has granted bail to SG Suryah, the State Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Suryah was arrested on June 16 following a tweet he posted regarding Madurai MP Su Venkatesan.
Earlier today, the Tamil Nadu Police presented the BJP State Secretary before the judiciary magistrate in Madurai, where the bail was granted. The arrest had been made due to Suryah’s recent tweet about the Madurai MP, which sparked controversy.
In the tweet, Suryah addressed Communist Party of India (CPI) Councilor Viswanathan, criticizing him for an incident involving the death of a sanitation worker in Madurai. Suryah alleged that the worker was forced to work in unsanitary conditions, leading to an allergic reaction in his body.
Accompanying his tweet, Suryah penned a scathing letter directed at Viswanathan, highlighting the councilor’s double standards and his disregard for the prohibition of manual scavenging by law. Furthermore, Suryah targeted Madurai MP Venkatesan, questioning his silence on the matter.
The exact translation of Suryah’s Tamil tweet reads, “Your fake politics of separatism stinks worse than that cesspool, find a way to live as a human being, mate!”
By granting bail to SG Suryah, the Madurai District Court acknowledges his right to freedom pending further legal proceedings. This development marks an important step in the ongoing controversy surrounding Suryah’s tweet and the subsequent arrest.
