Exciting developments are underway in Mumbai as eleven prominent companies compete for the coveted contract to construct Line 12 of the Mumbai Metro, according to The MetroRailGuy.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) had earlier issued tenders in February 2023 for the construction of Line 12, which spans between Kalyan and Taloja. The project is divided into two civil packages, each with a 30-month deadline.
In total, these companies have submitted 19 bids for the two packages, showcasing their interest and expertise in the project.
Prominent contenders such as Afcons Infrastructure, Gawar Construction, G R Infraprojects, J Kumar Infraprojects, Kalpataru Power Transmission, KEC International, and Larsen and Toubro have submitted bids for both packages. Meanwhile, NCC, SAM India Builtwell, SP Singla Constructions, and Tata Projects have placed bids for a single package.
The Project at a Glance
Line 12, also known as the Orange Line, spans an impressive 20.07 kilometers and will be entirely elevated, featuring a total of 17 stations.
The planned stations along the Orange Line include Ganesh Nagar, Pisavali Gaon, Golvali, Dombivli MIDC, Sagaon, Sonarpada, Manpada, Hedutane, Kolegaon, Nilje Gaon, Vadavli (Khu), Bale, Waklan, Turbhe, Pisarve Depot, Pisarve, and Taloja.
The Kalyan Taloja Line 12 will offer an interchange at APMC Market Kalyan (Metro Line-5 Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan) and Taloja (Navi Mumbai Metro), providing enhanced connectivity for commuters.
Funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the total project cost for Metro Line 12 amounts to Rs 5,494 crore, with an expected completion deadline of October 2025.
The detailed project report (DPR), prepared by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), highlights the corridor’s aim to alleviate congestion in Mumbai and spur development activities in the surrounding area.
Once operational, Metro Line 12 is projected to cater to a ridership of 1.92 lakh by 2031, with a Peak Hour Peak Direction Traffic (PHPDT) of 9,156 passengers. This transformative metro line will undoubtedly contribute to the city’s transportation infrastructure and support its future growth.
