A ‘Fail-Safe’ Step: Mumbai Metro Introduces Comprehensive Insurance for Commuters on Line 2A and 7
Commuters utilizing Mumbai Metro’s Line 2A and Line 7 can now experience a sense of security and well-being, thanks to the implementation of a comprehensive insurance coverage policy.
The Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL), responsible for overseeing this ambitious project, has taken a significant step towards ensuring the safety of passengers by procuring an annual insurance policy. This decision was made after conducting a meticulous risk analysis, considering the potential hazards that could arise during the daily commute.
This pioneering move, a first in public transportation within the city, aims to improve the overall commuting experience and encourage more individuals to opt for public transport in Mumbai. Notably, since its inception in January this year, the average daily ridership on these two metro lines has reached an impressive figure of 1.70 lakh passengers.
Line 2A stretches from Dahisar to DN Nagar in Andheri West, while Line 7 extends from Dahisar East to Gundavali in Andheri East.
To address unforeseen incidents that may occur during travel, the insurance policy offers comprehensive coverage for accidents, disabilities, and fatalities. Additionally, it covers medical expenses incurred as a result of accidents or injuries sustained during the journey.
Under this policy, hospitalization expenses are covered up to a maximum of Rs 1 lakh, while outpatient treatments are reimbursed up to Rs 10,000. Compensation of up to Rs 5 lakh is provided in the event of death, and for permanent or partial disabilities, the coverage ranges up to Rs 4 lakh, depending on the severity of the situation.
The insurance policy applies to passengers with valid tickets, passes, smart cards, QR codes, or any other form of authorized permission (except in areas where tickets are exempted). These documents must be presented within the premises of a Mumbai Metro building or station, inside the trains, or anywhere within the station complex, including both paid and unpaid areas.
SVR Srinivas, the Chairman and Managing Director of MMOCL, expressed, “In addition to the existing safety and security measures, we recognize the utmost importance of safeguarding commuters against unforeseen circumstances during their journeys. Therefore, we have implemented this comprehensive insurance coverage for our esteemed customers. With this policy in effect, passengers can now travel with peace of mind, knowing they have adequate insurance coverage in case of any unfortunate incidents. Our commitment to providing innovative solutions that prioritize the safety and well-being of our customers remains unwavering.”
