Detailed Project Report (DPR) Completed for Indore-Manmad Railway Line
The long-awaited Indore-Manmad railway line project is gaining momentum as the comprehensive Detailed Project Report (DPR) has reached a significant milestone. Efforts are now focused on securing the crucial approval from the Union cabinet for this ambitious venture, projected to require an investment of over ₹22,000 crore.
Progress Update from Indore MP
Shankar Lalwani, Member of Parliament from Indore, shared a notable development on Saturday. The Central Railway has successfully presented the DPR to the Railway Board, which is currently under examination. Subsequently, the report will be forwarded to NITI Aayog for further consideration before ultimately reaching the Finance Ministry. The ultimate green light for the commencement of the Indore-Manmad railway line rests with the Union cabinet.
Project Scope and Highlights
The Indore-Manmad railway line will span an impressive distance of 268 kilometers. At present, construction efforts are concentrated on laying approximately 50 kilometers of tracks between Dhule and Manmad. The remaining 218 kilometers, connecting Indore and Manmad, will necessitate around 2,200 hectares of land. This expansive route will boast a network of about 300 bridges, varying in size, as well as nine tunnels spanning a total length of approximately 20 kilometers. Additionally, travelers will have access to 34 stations along this route.
Regional Benefits and Significance
The implementation of the Indore-Manmad railway line holds substantial benefits for six districts: Indore, Dhar, Khargone, Barwani, Dhule, and Manmad (Nasik). The estimated cost of this transformative rail project exceeds ₹22,000 crore. This railway corridor is poised to significantly improve connectivity and accessibility for the districts it traverses. It will play a crucial role in enhancing transportation links between Indore, Maharashtra, and the southern states of the nation.
Commitment from Authorities
Lalwani emphasized his dedication to expediting the project’s progress. During the visits of Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on July 30 and Railway Board Chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti on July 23 to Indore, Lalwani submitted a request for acceleration of the project. Both officials have directed the Central Railway to promptly submit the report to facilitate further consideration and action.
