The Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has fulfilled a long-standing demand by approving the night landing facility at Kalaburagi Airport in Karnataka. This development marks a significant milestone for the airport, enhancing its overall functionality and expanding operational capabilities.
Inaugurated on 22nd November 2019 by the then Chief Minister of Karnataka, B S Yediyurappa, the Kalaburagi Airport previously had permission only for daylight flights. However, with the newly granted night landing permission, the airport can now extend its operations into the evening hours.
The introduction of the night landing facility allows the airport to accommodate flights after sunset, attracting more airlines and fostering increased regional connectivity. The airport boasts a spacious runway measuring 3175 meters by 45 meters, along with an apron capable of parking three aircraft.
The demand for night landing facilities at Kalaburagi Airport has been longstanding, and the recent approval by DGCA has amended the Aerodrome License from Visual Flight Rules (VFR) to Instrumental Flight Rules (IFR) for All Weather Operations. This regulatory change further enables the airport to operate in various weather conditions.
With the DGCA’s approval, Kalaburagi Airport is poised to become a vital hub for both domestic and international air traffic, facilitating convenient travel and bolstering the region’s economic growth.
