The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has recently signed a contract worth Rs 1,063 crore for the construction of metro stations in corridor-3 of phase 2. This contract is a part of the funding provided by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the phase 2 metro rail construction.
Phase-II Overview
- Corridor-3: Madhavaram to SIPCOT
- Corridor-4: Light House to Poonamallee
- Corridor-5: Madhavaram to Sholinganallur
The 118.1 km Chennai Metro Phase-II project is expected to cost approximately Rs 61,843 crore.
Corridor-3 Details
Corridor-3 runs across the eastern side of the city, linking suburban areas like Madhavaram Milk Colony and Old Mahabalipuram Road with core city areas like Chetpet, Nungambakkam, Mylapore, and Adyar.
Contract Details
According to a press note from CMRL, the contract agreement has been signed with M/s Dineshchandra-soma Joint Venture. The scope of work includes:
- Construction of four Underground Stations (US) at Moolakadai, Sembiyam, Perambur Market, and Perambur Metro Crossover at Sembiam.
- Other works, excluding the diaphragm wall, for two Underground Stations (US) at Madhavaram Milk Colony and Murari Hospital in corridor 3.
The signing of the contract took place in the presence of MA Siddique, Managing Director of CMRL. The contract was signed by T Archunan, Director (Projects) of CMRL, and Pranav Kumar, Vice President (Technical) of Dineshchandra-soma Joint Venture.
Timeline
CMRL managing director, M A Siddique, stated that phase-2 will be completed in stages between 2026 and 2028.
