India has achieved a significant breakthrough in aviation with the successful demonstration of performance-based navigation for helicopters using GAGAN satellite technology. This pioneering test, which involved a flight from Juhu to Pune, marks a momentous occasion for the Indian aviation sector’s trailblazing innovation.

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia took to Twitter to announce this remarkable feat, stating that it exemplifies the Indian aviation industry’s commitment to pushing boundaries. The utilization of GAGAN satellite technology during the flight enabled enhanced accuracy and facilitated high-quality air traffic management.

GAGAN, short for GPS Aided GEO Augmented Navigation, is a space-based augmentation system developed jointly by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI). Designed to deliver optimal navigational services within the Indian Flight Information Region (FIR), GAGAN possesses the potential for expansion into neighboring FIRs.
