The Adani Group is building the world’s largest hybrid renewable energy park right in the middle of a desert, in Khavda, Gujarat. The announcement was made by Gautam Adani, the founder and chairman of the group, during Adani Enterprises’ annual general meeting on July 18.
Project Overview
- The park will cover an area of 72,000 acres.
- Once operational, it will produce 20 GW of green energy.
- The project will be developed by Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), the renewable energy arm of the Adani Group.
Adani’s Vision
Gautam Adani described the project as the most complex and ambitious one the group has ever executed. He emphasized their intention to complete it faster than any other project in their history.
Hybrid Power Plant
The hybrid power plant addresses the intermittency of renewable energy generation and provides a more reliable solution to meet the growing power demand. Cutting-edge technologies are employed to harness solar and wind resources effectively.
World’s Largest Solar-Wind Producer
During the previous fiscal year (FY 022-23), the Adani Group operationalized 2.14 GW solar-wind hybrid plants in Rajasthan. This cluster is India’s first and the world’s largest solar-wind hybrid installation.
The hybrid cluster comprises four plants with capacities of 390 MW, 600 MW, 450 MW, and 700 MW, all located in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.
With this addition, AGEL’s wind-solar hybrid portfolio has now reached 2,140 MW, maintaining its position as the world’s largest.
The solar-wind hybrid plants utilize advanced technologies such as bifacial solar PV modules and horizontal single-axis tracking (HSAT) technology, resulting in a high hybrid capacity utilization factor (CUF) of 35.5%.
Conclusion
The Adani Group’s ambitious renewable energy project in Khavda, Gujarat, is set to become the world’s largest hybrid renewable energy park. By harnessing solar and wind resources, the park will produce 20 GW of green energy, addressing the rising power demand in an efficient and reliable manner.
