US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, during a news conference in Beijing, reiterated that the United States does not support Taiwan’s independence and emphasized the importance of maintaining the status quo. Blinken acknowledged China’s view of Taiwan as a major point of contention and expressed concerns over China’s provocative actions dating back to 2016.
Additionally, Blinken addressed the issue of North Korea and its recent missile launches, stating that he discussed the matter with China. He emphasized the need for all members of the international community to encourage North Korea, officially known as the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), to act responsibly by halting missile launches and engaging in discussions regarding its nuclear program.
Blinken highlighted China’s influential position and urged them to utilize their leverage to encourage Pyongyang to participate in dialogue and put an end to its dangerous behavior.
