Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is set to celebrate 50 years of Hip-Hop music with an exciting addition to its Season 5 content. The game will feature popular rappers Nicki Minaj, Snoop Dogg, and 21 Savage as playable operators in both the main game and the battle royale counterpart, Warzone 2.0.
New Additions
Alongside the hip-hop stars, players can also expect three new multiplayer maps: Livestock, an offshore Petrov Oil Rig, and Harbor, a vibrant area bustling with fish markets and shipping zones. Moreover, the game introduces ‘War Track’ packs, consisting of a selection of hip-hop music that players can listen to while playing.
In-Game Appearances
Nicki Minaj’s in-game look draws inspiration from her latest alter ego, ‘Red Ruby Da Sleeze,’ which coincided with the release of the Barbie movie and triggered an internet fascination with the color pink and all things sassy. Her assault rifle in the game is brightly pink colored, with more details to be revealed later. Meanwhile, Snoop Dogg’s appearance marks his third in-game collaboration with Call of Duty. His rifle in this iteration is a silenced, blue-tinted one, adorned with gold engravings resembling a marijuana leaf.
Previous Collaborations
Call of Duty is known for its unique collaborations, having previously partnered with The Boys, adding characters like Homelander, Starlight, and Black Noir to the game, each with their own brutal finishers. The game has also featured collaborations with Lionel Messi, outfits based on the Attack on Titan anime, and even a limited-time mode featuring Godzilla on the map. With more brand partnerships in the future, players can expect even more outlandish operators, similar to what Fortnite has been doing.
Exciting Gameplay Changes
Season 5 introduces exciting gameplay changes, including the Havoc game mode, which incorporates random modifiers to make gameplay frenetic. Players may experience altered jump heights, grenade-like explosions upon landing from high altitudes, and more. Additionally, new capture-the-flag modes and Gunfight Variants (2v2 and 4v4 matchups) await players. Warzone 2.0 also adds a dirt bike and an MRAP armored vehicle to its catalog.
Release Date
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s Season 5 event is scheduled to go live on August 2, 2023, and will be available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
