Paris: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his two-day official visit to France, declared that Indian students pursuing a master’s degree in France will now be granted a long-term post-study visa of five years. This initiative is a significant increase from the previous two-year work visa allotted to Indian students.
Announcement made during address to Indian community in Paris
The announcement was made by PM Modi during his speech at LA Seine Musicale in Paris, where he received an enthusiastic welcome from the attendees. He expressed his gratitude towards France and deemed his visit “special” as it coincides with France’s National Day celebrations.
“The last time I came to France, it was decided that Indian students studying in France would be given a 2-year post-study work visa. Now, it has been decided that Indian students pursuing Masters in France will be given long-term post-study visa of 5 years,” stated PM Modi during his address.
Warm reception and celebration of Indo-French friendship
Upon his arrival in Paris, PM Modi was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the airport, where he was greeted by French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne. He conveyed his congratulations to the people of France on their National Day and highlighted the unwavering friendship between India and France.
Strengthening ties through technological collaborations
During his speech, PM Modi praised the growth of India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and revealed that an agreement has been reached to enable the use of UPI in France. Notably, this initiative will commence at the iconic Eiffel Tower, allowing Indian tourists to make rupee payments through UPI. PM Modi also emphasized the extensive collaboration between India and France in the fields of archaeology and digital infrastructure.
Guest of Honour at Bastille Day Parade
As a special guest, Prime Minister Modi will attend the Bastille Day Parade at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron. This visit holds additional significance as it marks the 25th anniversary of the India-France Strategic Partnership.
